Subject: Israel - PM Netanyahu's speech
Sir, The rejection of Netanyahu's proposal for a two state solution by the Palestinians (report June 16th) was predictable. Saeb Erekat made two comments that sum up their true aspirations. Discussing Jerusalem, he forgets that Hilary Clinton, US secretary of state, declared in September 2007, "I personally consider Jerusalem the eternal and indivisible capital of Israel." Refusing to recognise Israel as a Jewish State is merely an attempt to send further 2 million Muslim Arabs to Israel, which would increase their number in Israel to equivalent to 35 million in the UK: and guarantee the population being only half Jewish. What chance for Christian survival would be there?"
Hamas is not even being asked to recognise Israel in these 'negotiations.' Muhammad Dahlan of the PA said:' We are asking Hamas not to do so, because Fatah never recognised Israel's right to exist.'
The Palestinians have never wanted peaceful co-existence with Israel, the polls confirm this. The Pew Global Attitudes poll showed that 77% don't believe they can live side by side with Israel.
