Wishful thinking at Haaretz
June 30, 2004
The Editor, Haaretz
Last Sunday you published a strange item showing 3 Border Police, one of whom is pointing. They are seemingly at ease.
They were standing next to someone holding a sign reading "Stop the ethnic cleansing". Fair enough.
But how come your caption related that the policemen had clashed "with demonstrators carrying signs against the separation fence"? How's that again? The sign doesn't mention a fence at all. Why do you?
Moreover one person with a sign does not make for a dynamic demonstration. There is just no sign of a clash whatever. Policemen don't make trouble for people who don't make trouble.
This is not reporting. It's more like wishful thinking.
AP is credited. If that is what they wrote why did you publish their nonsense?
Sincerely
Jock L. Falkson
