Don't Underestimate Iran's Threats
Sir, - Re: ‘Blowing Up the Iran Threat' (Nov 7): Your article ridicules those who are afraid of Ahmadinejad's verbal threats to the West and to Israel. Ahmadinejad's expressed nuclear ambitions and consistent declarations that Israel "must be wiped off the map" are no real problems, you say. Ahmadinejad is only a funny little man, who believes that there are no homosexuals in Iran. His more troubling quotations like "the region and the whole world are prepared for being cleansed of these Satanic enemies" - are simply omitted. So, you can present those who 'inflate Iran's threats' as war-mongers.
Sir, I, for one, do love peace and, not despite that but therefore, I think that Ahmadinejad's incitement to commit genocide and Iran's potential nuclear threats must be taken very, very seriously. And Israel is only the first step in their, in his vision of Islam's global supremacy. Don't tell us he is ‘only a madman'. All ‘madman' leaders in modern history, from Hitler to Gaddafi, from Arafat to Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden, did, or at least tried to, materialize even their most crazy threats. In action they were not lunatics at all, but very energetic managers, who could be stopped by huge sacrifices only.
It would have saved a great many human lives to fight these madmen earlier, responding to their verbal threats already. Let's follow this time Churchill from the beginning and not Chamberlain until we see the tragedy actually happening.
Respectfully,
